Rolling up the siding |
Description: |
I missed getting a shot of this northbound empty TXUX train in Siloam, but was able to catch him in Gentry, as he rolled up short of the Main St crossing. Hell meet a southbound AEPX train here. The late afternoon sun is giving us quite a glint here. |

Didnt catch him |
Description: |
After losing the race to the Davidson Rd crossing, I waited for the train, then took off, hoping hed keep his reduced pace-the detector just south of Davidson Rd said 16 MPH-but it was not to be. I got this grab shot of the DPUs as they crossed Country Club Rd. A lot of hustle would be needed to catch him at Westville, and a full bladder made the decision to call off the chase here. Id be back out a little later to get a southbound grain train. |

Standing out |
Description: |
I gave chase of the AEPX train, thinking Id beat him to Davidson Rd, near MP 227, since I was making 65 or so on the road, and hed have a good pull coming up into Siloam, as most of the unit trains do. He made better time than I expected, and I reached the crossing just as the gates went down. Only one thing to do: open the passenger side window, zoom in. Thus we have the bright yellow of the UP leader in low late day sun, accentuated by the dark side of the 125 car train. |

Dinked |
Description: |
After the grain train passed me in Siloam, I took off, running Ark 59 to Summers, then US 62 west to Westville. As I approached Westville, I noticed a large cloudbank to the south and west. What the hell!?!? I dont recall anything about rain in the forecast!! By the time I got down there, I had enough time to work north of town a little ways, meeting the train at the soccer fields near the road to the cemetery. I shot him across the field-in gloom. Dinked again. |

DPUs away |

The thing about shuttles is that they keep the power on both ends, just running the trains back and forth. I heard this guy coming north from my house, and went into town to see where he was. In the process of checking out all the possible signals, he got by me at Country Club Rd. A quick turn around, and I got to Davidson Rd in time to miss the head end, but I got the back. A BNSF SD 70M helps the CP power. |

The empty oil train had a pair of CP units, an AC 4400, and an ES 44 AC. The CP "Golden Rodent" scheme didnt fit especially well with the GE carbody, so they opted for a simpler-and less expensive-scheme on the ES 44, as we see here. |

Upstate NY?? Oh, yeah, we had over 100" most years. |

Coal train DPU |
Description: |
The coal train must not have turned on a loop, as it was in a 1x2 configuration, with the road power that led south now trailing. Here it is rolling past the Stilwell station, about to meet the southbound Q train, which is just now peeking out from behind the station. |

A hundred feet more |
Description: |
This is one of those "close but no cigar" shots. The southbound KCS train didnt quite make it out of the shadows to have the meet in the sun. If the northbound had gone a hundred feet less, and the southbound 100 feet more, it would have been killer. Oh well.... |

Got the board |
Description: |
The Q train now has the signal to continue south, as the coal train has cleared. This was an efficient meet. Nobody stopped rolling, no delay. The way it should be. |

Mid train DPU |
Description: |
The Q trains, because they have intermodal, get their DPU s ahead of the containers, pulling rather than pushing them. KCS 4146 is in the midst of things, behind 59 freight and ahead of 12 stack platforms. |

Across the field |
Description: |
I had seen this shot on the way down, but not with the power. The light was wonderful, so thought Id shoot the DPUs on the northbound here. Ill do this again. |

From the old road |
Description: |
I followed the train up through Westville, opting for this shot from the old US 59 to gain some elevation for a panoramic shot. By the time I got to Watts, the shadows had fallen, so this was the last photo. He met a southbound at Watts-I didnt stick around to see it. |

Finally 5000s |
Description: |
The ET44AHs have been running for almost two years, but they seem to elude me. Except for some sporadic shots, I have not really seen them. So it was a happy moment when this southbound M train came into view at Westville, passing the HJ Baker feed mill. |
