Through the trees

Description:  Recent rains-some places got over 3"-had swollen a number of local watercourses. In this case, Butler Creek had surged, washing out some of the trees and debris that cluttered the stream bank. Most of the trees on the one side remained, though there was enough clear to get a shot of the DPU on this northbound coal train under the bluffs.

Description:  The line south of Cave Springs rolls along next to the road for about two miles down to the small community of Bunch, a grade crossing, a few houses and a couple of churches. About 1/2 mile before reaching the crossing at MP 271, the line rolls around a sweeping curve. The oil train comes around the curve, passing me in sweet light.

Description:  This is the point where you have to give up the chase. Except for a couple of spots in the next mile, theres no way to continue the chase in any meaningful way, as the roads dont support a high speed run. Thus, I rolled the train by, getting the DPU as they went past, a mix of power as has become typical on these trains.

As we came back through Siloam, we encountered this empty grain train waiting in the siding for an impending southbound. I grabbed this shot, and we went off toward Watts to see how the Illinois River was doing. While in Watts, a southbound AEPX train would come along, the train this one was waiting for.
