Here is an example of one of the earlier Alco 2-8-8-0 "Consolidation Mallets" built in 1916. Original specs - class EL-2, 58" drivers, 210 psi boiler pressure, 26x31" high pressure clyinders, 41x31" low pressure cylinders, engine weight of 485,600 lb, impressive tractive effort of 91,993 lb. Starting in 1930, a few class EL-2's were converted to 4 cylinder simple-expansion to improve pulling power. A name, Theodore Bullockus, was listed on the back of the photo - either the photographer or a photo collector.. |
