5.24.1981 Southern's Charlotte, NC engine terminal. On the day before (Saturday),the SOU 6141 FP7A and its mate SOU 6147 had taken a round-trip excision from Charlotte to Asheville that I rode with my nephew. View Jim Owens' posted photos above of this trip. Later in the day that I shot this the pair would do a one-way movement to Greensboro to reposition their passenger consist for upcoming excursions in Virginia. SOU 6141 B/D 10/50, BN 12337. 58:19 gearing. Re# 3497 12/16/1983. Retired 4/20/1988. Shortly after sold to R.J. Corman of Tennessee. |

SOU 3497 on the Broad River Limited |
Description: |
6.22.1985. SOU FP7 3497 providing assisting power for the Southern 4501 steam locomotive on the Broad River Limited excursion. This trip began in Charlotte, followed the "R" line to Columbia, SC, then to Spartanburg over the "W" line, then returned to Charlotte on the mainline that runs between Atlanta and Washington, D.C. This was shot during a back-up move to prepare for a photo runby at a remote spot named Ogden, just south of Rock Hill, SC. My 7 year old nephew, Jonathan, joined me for the trip. |
