South Australian Railways 900 Class |
Description: |
The 900 Class were a locomotive class built by the South Australian Railways in 1951. These SAR designed PA1 clones have a similar carbody to the PA1 but that's pretty much where the simulatity ends. These locomotives have a English Electric 16SVT Mk I engine, EE 822 type generator and EE 4 type 523A air cooled traction motors. 10 were built with 3 surviving into preservation. They ran on South Australia's broad gauge network and led such trains as the Overland from Melbourne Vic. 900 is named Lady Norrie after Lieutenant-General Charles Willoughby Moke Norrie, 1st Baron Norrie, the then Governor of South Australia. |
