NYC 4-8-2 #2710 - New York Central |
Description: |
The beautiful and powerful New York Central 4-8-2 #2710 sits in the Elkhart, Indiana, yard waiting for its next assignment. Built by ALCo-Schenectady in February of 1029, this 4-8-2 was christened as a "Mohawk" since NYC didn't think the "Mountain" label was appropriate for their "Water Level Route". Specs - 69" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 362,500 lb, tractive effort of 60,620 with a booster addition of 12,660 lb. The photo is from the Howard W. Ameling collection. |
