MEC 149 on Train 21
Title:  MEC 149 on Train 21
Description:  MEC #149 & crew somewhere in Maine. This was a Class N 4-6-0 blt in July of 1892 by Rhode Island, renumbered to 274 in 1900 and scrapped in June of 1912. CYLs were 19x24 with 57 inch drivers. I think the rolling stock is more interesting than the locomotive... In particular the RW&O box car ahead of the caboose. According to Wikipedia this was probably the Rome, Watertown and Ogdensburg RR which had clover leaf logo. It operated from 1842 to 1891. It’s nickname was Rotten Wood and Old Rusty Rails... (Sort‘a like the B&ML years ago as The Broken and Mended Line.) /DL

CEI 4-6-0 #158 - Chicago & Eastern Illinois
Title:  CEI 4-6-0 #158 - Chicago & Eastern Illinois
Description:  Here is a very early ten-wheeler built in 1902 by the Pittsburgh Locomotive Works, C&EI class T-23. It had tall 78" drivers and could develop 200 psi boiler pressure for its compound 22½ and 35X30 cylinders. The engine weight was 165,000 lbs, but after rebuilt to simple in 1904 with 20X26 cylinders, it weighed 174,800 lbs and it could produced 22,667 lb of tractive effort. It was renumbered to 616 (class G-3) in 1911 and dismantled by the C&EI in 1929. No date or location was given but it almost appears to be a builder's photo so the date and location are based on that premise. R.H Kennedy

CNJ 4-6-0C #162
Title:  CNJ 4-6-0C #162
Description:  Good photo by an unknown photographer of Central Railroad of New Jersey 4-6-0C camelback ten wheeler #162. Built by Alco-Brooks around 1901, this camelback had the fireman in a rear position while the engineer rode alone in the cab. Several pros and cons have been made about this configuration but it eventually died out as engines became larger. No date was given so an approximate one was used.

Title:  NP 4-6-0 #249 - Northern Pacific
Description:  This is a sharp looking 1900 Alco-built ten wheeler, NP class p-2 compound, with 69" drivers. It could generate a boiler pressure of 200 psi for its compound 22"x26" cylinders. Engine weight was 160,400 lb and it could produce a tractive effort of 21,854 lb. In 1920 Schenectady rebuilt it - simplified cylinder configuration - dropping the engine weight to 158,000 lb and increasing the tractive effort to 25,623 lb. Date and location are approximations and no photographer was listed for this photo unfortunately.
