CNW 4-2-0 "Pioneer" |
Description: |
The Pioneer is ready for passenger service with a single coach. Depending on traffic needs, the Pioneer would often pull additional coaches and a baggage car. This photo is pulled from an article which appeared in the 2/14/53 "Capitol Times" newspaper from Madison, Wisconsin. My guess would be tha the photo is from the late 1850s or early 60s. This image is the best I could do with an old, yellowed newspaper clipping. |

Description: |
Here is page three of a 78-page booklet published by Harry P. Albrecht entitled "Those Amazing Class 'D' Locomotives." It was issued originally in June of 1981. Partial Caption: "The Pennsylvania Railroad was only 3 years old when the Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia outshopped No. 7, the Juniata, in 1849." Shown here is the PRR's engine named "Juniata," a 4-4-0 "American" built by Baldwin during 1849, later rechristened number "7," and retired in March of 1872 after 23 years of faithful service. In this context, it looks to me like the "Juniata" is about to cross over the Little Juniata River near Union Furnace, Pennsylvania. |

Family Photo of Construction of the Nevada California & Oregon Railway |
Description: |
(Date Approximate) This photo from my grandmothers family history collection; shows what looks like a construction train on the Nevada California & Oregon line. Help via Facebook on the Southern Pacific and Western Pacific fan groups suggests the location is Wendel California. My ancestors who worked on railroads were Martin David Rice, and his son Hubil Lumis Rice. It is possible they are both in this photo. |
