Black River & Western GP9 #752  Contributor's Pick!
Heading back from working the interchange with the Norfolk Southern in Three Bridges, 1102 hours, over the iron truss bridge over the South Branch of the Raritan River on the ex-CNJ Flemington Branch. The CNJ Flemington Branch, originally the South Branch Railroad, opened in 1864 and ran from Somerville, through the Duke Estate in Hillsborough, and paralleled the Lehigh Valley from Flagtown to Rockefellow Mills, where it turned southwest toward Flemington. The line from Somerville to Three Bridges was abandoned 1960ish. The portion of the line between Three Bridges and Flemington is now being operated by the Black River & Western Railroad. The abandoned ROW of the ex-CNJ Flemington Branch can still be clearly seen on Google Earth.
