This view is from the cab of Amtrak B32-8WH 507 on train No. 23, the westbound GULF COAST LIMITED. The train is at CSX milepost 803.75, the most southwestern location on the railroad. Just ahead is the connection with the Norfolk Southern's BACK BELT, L&N Junction Tower (which closed in July 1972), and the Elysian Fields Avenue overpass. Passenger trains operating over the CSX into New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal use the NS for 3.5 miles, from here to East City Juction; and then operate over NOUPT track for the last four miles into the station. Notice the movable-point frogs on the crossing on the left. |
