Why would a yard slug need MU connections? doesn't RCL stand for Remote Controil Locomotive?

Great Catch! These are non powered remote control platforms-no traction motors-they just tell the other locomotives in the consist what to do. They never caught on and most ended up in storage.

Union Pacific did the same thing with their old GE B-23/B-30/B-36 units in early 2000's and BNSF started to copy the idea but only did a few of some different models.
