Great action shot of billowing clouds of smoke coming from Great Northern 4-6-2 Pacific type #1356. This loco is one of the rebuilds that the GN Shops did during the 1920's. They took older Baldwin E-14 class 4-6-0 ten wheelers and rebuilt them into 4-6-2's. The class was scrapped in the early 1950's. Original rebuilt specs - class H-5-s, Belpaire firebox, 73" drivers, 210 psi boiler pressure, 23.5x30" cylinders, engine weight of 282,800 lb and tractive effort of 40,511 lb. The entire class was retired and scrapped between 1950-55 except GN #1355 now undergoing restoration. This is a Robert Graham photo. Unfortunately no date was listed for this photo so an approximate was used. |
