Here is an image of a cross section of an original iron rail from the Allegheny Portage Railroad (1834-1854). It has two engravings. The first of these reads: "Presented to William P. Smith, by J. King McLanahan." Mr. McLanahan was an industrialist in Hollidaysburg during the early 1900's. And second, the engraving at the left depicts the proper arrangement of the rail in the rail anchor.
