Panarail Tourism Company coach RIO MAMONI was one of six passenger car that were shopped and remodeled in New Orleans for service on the Panama Canal Railway. The work was performed in and around the former Kansas City Southern diesel shop at West Yard by Peter Messina. RIO MAMONI and four other coaches were former Amtrak cars originally built by Budd in 1951 for service on the Pennsylvania Railroad's CONGRESSIONAL and SENATOR trains. Notice the open-air viewing platform which has been created at the far end of the car. This and three other cars were shipped from New Orleans, while the last two left from Houston. |
