New Orleans Public Service trolleybus 1339 was a Marmon-Herrington model TC-44 built in 1947, so it was about a year old when this photo was taken on the FRERET route. The FRERET streetcars had been replaced by gasoline-powered buses on 1 December 1946, trolleybuses took over on 4 September 1947 and then diesel-powered buses replaced them on 10 June 1963. The MARMON-HERRINGTON lettering above the front number didn't last long. NOPSI received the 1338 on 30 October 1947 and retired it on 2 July 1963, after 409,109 miles. (approximate date of photo) |
