Louisiana Southern 80-ton GE 504 was parked in the railroad’s little yard at 6225 St. Claude Avenue, between St. Maurice Ave. (on the right) and Tricou St. The locomotive (serial no. 12187) had been built in November 1937 as a demonstrator for the Cummins Engine Co. and was sold to the Northeast Oklahoma Railroad as their 253 in April 1939. The NEO sold it to the Louisiana Southern on 21 October 1949 for $35,000 and it was eventually scrapped at Chatham Iron & Metal in Savannah, Georgia around 1970. |
