Posing out in a wide open prairie is the cute little plugger, Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe 0-6-0 yard swticher #2040 (serial #37041). The loco was built by Baldwin in October of 1911 and served for over 40 years. This 0-6-0 class switcher was renumbered in 1946 to ATSF #9039. The class was gone from the roster by 1954 with this loco being sold for scrap to the Purdy Company on 6/3/1950. Specs - serial #37041, class 2039, 51" drivers, 20x26" cylinders engine weight of 155,972 lb, tractive effort of 31,300 lb. No location, date or photographer was listed for this clean photo. Since it still wore its original number, the date has to be before 1945 and the flatness in the background makes Kansas a possible location. |
