Here is a steam locomotive portrait via D.W. Eldridge that was taken in Peoria, Illinois, on 2 July 1950. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8818, an H-10S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built in Juniata as Vandalia H-8C number "160" during February of 1912, rebuilt in Juniata as an H-9SC in December of 1915, renumbered "8818" in 1917, later rebuilt as an H-10S and equipped with a mechanical stoker, renumbered "9981" in 1951, and retired in October of 1953 after 41 years of faithful service. Many thanks to Mr. Robert Hess for identifying this locomotive correctly. (#10 of 20) |
