"From Baltimore To Harrisburg," Page 39, 1944
Here is page two of a four-page article by William Moedinger Jr., entitled "From Baltimore To Harrisburg On The PRR." It was published originally in the August 1944 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 39. Photo Caption: "The tandem K-4's are pulling the 'St. Louisian.' Because of the curves and grades, average speed over this line is slower than over the Pittsburgh Division, which hurdles the Alleghenies." In the lead is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5385, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata in June of 1924 and retired in June of 1948 after 24 years of service. In this context, they're pulling the Harrisburg-bound section of the "St. Louisan" through Freeland, Maryland.
