In 1961, SP decided that too much time was lost from cutting power off from eastbound trains near the east end of the Dunsmuir yard to move to uptown Dunsmuir for fueling (by the turntable). In a surprising move, SP constructed a brand new fuel terminal and abandoned fueling in uptown. However, by 1969 bigger 4K gallon fuel tanks allowed most thru eastbound trains to run between Klamath Falls and Roseville without refueling. This facility was dismantled (Dunsmuir Yard closed in 1968) and fueling for helpers/locals was re-established in uptown again.
