This meticulous looking locomotive served as our power unit on the fall color tourist train on the Osceola & St Croix Valley Rwy. Originally built as Great Northern SDP40 #325 in May of 1966, it was only one of 20 ever built - 6 went to the Great Northern (320-325) while 14 went to the Nacionales de Mexico (8522-8535). Like many GN units, GN #325 went down the BN-BNSF roster with many renumberings including a special bicentennial #1976 until it was eventually donated to the Minnesota Transportation Museum in St Paul, MN. The Museum restored it to the Great Northern color scheme as number 325 although technically its reporting mark is MNTX 325. Our trip even included a "run-by" as it switched switched ends of the train for the return trip. |
