| This unit was one of only a few Paducah-rebuilt geeps with a genuine EMD slanting low nose. The 8461 had been built as IC GP9 9305, and its frame number was confirmed as 5553-6. It was rebuilt as orange-and-white GP10 8461 in March 1977, with a standard ICG flat-top nose; but this was damaged in an accident at Bluford, Illinois in early 1979. The 8461 was repaired with an EMD low nose, probably from IC GP18 9423, and received the current orange-and-gray paint job and a new rebuild date of December 1979. |
