Description:  The southbound TXUX train I followed from Westville will meet this northbound empty AEPX train here. I was on my way down to the station to shoot the southbound and got this grab shot of the empty coal at the OK 51 crossing. Getting the meet while both trains were moving was going to be problematic, so I took the shot from the road.

Description:  I had hoped when I started the chase of the H train that I would be able to get a nice, low light angle shot as it passed the station in Stilwell. When I got to the station, I parked, then looked down to check the signal. Thats when I saw the northbound empty TXUX train. My immediate thought was, the empty train will take the siding, letting the 10000 ton merchandiser roll on through. Nope. As it got closer, I could see the coal train was holding the main. Crap. Maybe it will be a rolling meet-KCS often hold an effective meet, and trains almost dont come to a complete stop. It was not to be. The coal train stopped with its rear end about 9 cars too far south, and my shot of the H train was going to be blocked. Curses, foiled again!! This is the head end of the coal train approaching the Stilwell station.

Heres why the northbound didnt get the signal: this light power move south, coming into town about 15 minutes behind the H train.

Til the cows come home

Description:  The H train rolls past a cow pasture and creek north of Stilwell. The trees have been creeping up on this shot; only a few years ago it was much more open, and a good part of the train could be seen. Now youre lucky to get a clean shot of the power, and wont if its more than three engines.

Description:  When I got to Stilwell, this northbound H train was waiting in the siding. For the second day in a row, I caught one of the AC44CW's in Belle paint, three of them in two days. They must be catching up at the paint shop. Also in consist is an ex ATSF SD 75M, now a lease unit. I had to do a few things in town, so I shot him here, got the grain train at the station, then went to take care of my chores. Id pick up the chase shortly, though.

Description:  The DPU on this train is almost anticlimactic in terms of the excitement of its paint scheme-after all+ UP has several thousand of these. But with a red, white and blue engine, painted to show support for our troops leading, its only fitting that the flag bring up the rear. As I write this on July 4, I am mindful of the sacrifices all of our service members make to protect our great nation, especially the behind the scenes troops whose actions are not always visible, but whose efforts make their operations run smoothly. My daughter was on active duty in the Navy for 8 years, doing IT and radio on a guided missile destroyer, down in the bowels of a ship in a carrier group. Not very conspicuous, but critical to the mission. On July 4, as every day, I am grateful to our active duty, reservists, and vets for their service to America. It is fitting that KCS has painted 4006 in their honor.

Description:  A shot I want to get right is the head on angle coming past the building, but since I dont really have any decent shots of the new ET44s, I opted for this wider angle. The four head end units of the H train roll their 143 cars past the station-look at the rest of the train to the left of the station. Too bad I got dinked. This would have been a good open view in the sun. Win some, lose some.
