Both were built by the American Locomotive Company. #5650 is an AS-10 built in April of 1950 and rated at 1,000 horsepower. #8639 is an AS-18M built in November of 1957 and rated at 1,800 horsepower. Description: |
This A1800 hp lco RS11 was built sometime in 1956-57 and was a class ARS18m. After being absorbed in the Penn Central, it would be renumbered as PC #7639. The date is approximate but with Warren Evans help, the date must be after 1966 when PRR used large numbers on the cabs. With the help of Daniel Andres, Jr, who identified the location (see comment below), this was taken at upper Bel-Del yard in Phillipsburg, NJ. Forrest Trittenbach photo |
