C&NW GP18 1777 |
Description: |
Chicago & North Western Railway GP18 1777 at Des Moines, Iowa on September 2, 1982, Kodachrome by Ken Kessler, Chuck Zeiler collection. Below the cab it is stencilled as a GP9. This might be due to the use of components from F3 trade-in's. Here is a footnote from Utahrails.net's C&NW page: Equipped with 16-567BC engines rather than normal for GP18 16-567D1 engines. Also equipped with four 3-foot radiator fans rather than two 4-foot radiator fans, as on a normal GP18. This change in design configuration is explained by the use of several components from the six 6500 class F3s that were used as direct trade-in units. At least one unit, C&NW 1779, was wrongly stenciled during its career as a GP9. Traded to EMD in June 1985, scrapped by St. Louis Auto Shredding, Madison, Ill.. |
