Description:  Wheeling & Lake Erie 2-8-4 Berkshire #6418 (serial #69431, class K-1) was built by Alco-Schenectady in February of 1941. In 1952, it was renumbered Nickel Plate Road #818 after the NKP took control of WLE in 1949. Like several of its sister units, it was "laid up" (retired) at the Brewster, OH yard in May of 1957 and finally sold for scrap in June of 1961 to the Luntz Iron & Steel Company. Specs - 69" drivers, impressive 245 psi boiler pressure, 25x34" cylinders, engine wt of 415,000 lb and tractive force of 64,100 lb. Unfortunately, no date, location or photographer was listed for this photo now in my rr collection. An approximate location and date were used for posting.
