Description:
Here is a postal card from the Henry C. Westenberger Collection. No Postmark. The photographer is not identified. Photo Caption: "Pennsylvania 4579. The Pennsylvania Railroad had 598 Class I Decapods on the roster. Of these, Baldwin built 475 locomotives, numbered 4225 thru 4699. One of these, the 4579, is seen backing a hopper in the Sandusky, Ohio, yard on a September 1950 day." PRR engine #4579 is an I-1SA "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during September of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in February of 1936, and retired in 1955 after 32 years of faithful service.
