Description: |
Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by David R. Sweetland that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during April of 1960. Shown here (F to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9610 and two more "AF" Class units whose numbers are not recorded. All were built by the American Locomotive Company. #9610 was built in May of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in July of 1966 after just 15 years of revenue service. In this context, they're about to pass under the 8th Street Bridge in Juniata with a westbound mixed-cargo freight train. Visible in the distance are the 17th Street Bridge, the roundhouse's power house smoke stack, and the East Altoona Coaling Tipple. ("LouisFols"; #1 of 26) |
