Description:  Here is page ten of an 11-page cover article by Frederick Westing entitled "The Locomotive That Made Penn Station Possible." It was published originally in the October 1956 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 37. Top Photo, Partial Caption: "Only railfans are around to mourn the loss at Modena, Pa., as DD-1's in postwar Long Island paint scheme line up....Destination: scrap." Shown here are LIRR engines #348-A and #348-B. Before being transferred to the LIRR in February of 1928, they were originally PRR #11 ~ consisting of #3954 and #3955. Both are DD-1's (2-B+B-2) built in Juniata during July of 1910 and rated at 3,160 horsepower. Bottom Photo, Partial Caption: "Both units tell of 1939-1940 special service when DD-1's forwarded trains from Penn Station to World's Fair site." Shown here is PRR engine #16, consisting of #3964 and #3965. Both are DD-1's (2-B+B-2) built in Juniata during July of 1910 and rated at 3,160 horsepower; both were transferred to the Long Island Rail Road in December of 1944 and renumbered: #3964 became "359-A" and #3965 became "359-B."
