Pennsy Boxcar #498317 at Findlay, Ohio Sept. 1984.  Contributor's Pick!       
Porking out its last years in MOW service. This old Pennsy boxcar was still in pretty good shape.1924 design X29 class boxcar. Pennsy also had a 1928 design. All told Pennsy had more than 29,000 of them built. The second most numerous boxcar of it's time qeriod. N.Y.C. had something in the area of 32,000 boxcars built to it's design. In a similar time period. They were the "per dium" boxcar of that time period.

Stu Nicholson General I imagine it would be difficult to trace whatever happen to this boxcar through the old Conrail records. It would have made a nice piece for a rail museum restoration project. That heavy-guage, riveted steel looks like it held up as well as the paint. 8/13/2013 1:58:57 PM
