| Description: |
Winter. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 3 January 1965. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #7108 and #7054. Both are EFS-17M's built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,750 horsepower each. #7108 was built in May of 1957 while #7054 was built in October of 1956. They're passing WORKS Tower with a string of empty hopper cars on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to the coal mines of Western Pennsylvania. Visible at the left are some of the PRR's Passenger Car Shops. Notable above the train is the 4th Street Footbridge: the new (girder) version is being built inside the original (wrought iron) structure. Curiously, the new version of the bridge went no farther than this; it was never extended to Chestnut Avenue, like its predecessor. |
